By the time Andi and I were married in July 2001, I had been promoted from Graphic Designer to Art Director at the agency. It is there that I began to tune my client interaction skills and refine my design sensiblities.
In 2001 I began my Freelance design career working for Morningside College. I took their alumni magazine and took it from an 80s-looking black and white publication to a full color, contemporary publication. Since taking it over, the publication has continuely grown from 24 to 48 pages.
On May 30, 2002 my younger brother passed away unexpectedly. Shortly there after, September 2002, my wife and I moved back to the Midwest to be with my family and begin the healing process. I worked at my father's print shop as Art Director/Manager, expanding the services offered and bringing a higher level of design capabilities. I taught Web design and Interactive Media at Morningside College with an emphasis on design and expanding the creative-minds of my students. I also have grown my freelance client base via word-of-mouth.
Currently, I am working as Art Director at Robstan Group, Inc., an association management firm. I am responsible for all design, production, print buying and mailhouse coordination. My work with this company has generated much positive response from the membership of each association. With comments ranging from "Wow! We must have gotten a new designer!" to "The level of design has been raised several bars high."
Art, specifically design, is all I have ever pursued. I am committed to doing my best. I work hard to keep abreast of new technology and creative trends. To this day, more than ten years after I first took up a computer mouse, design brings me great satisfaction and fulfillment. It is a family heritage for which I am very grateful. The son of a print shop owner and an accomplished copywriter, the powerful combination of word and image is in my blood.
